Kubly Automotive serves the needs of Brodhead Community By Cynthia Hunter Editor

BRODHEAD - Taking things apart and putting them back together for more than 20 years – Kubly Automotive serves the needs of Brodhead community An 11 year-old boy sits in the basement of his family home among the scattered parts of a carburetor he has disassembled. Carefully placing each part in order, he methodically reassembles the apparatus, installs it back into the snowmobile from which it came and a life-long calling is revealed. Fast forward to the present and you will find that 11
year-old boy is now an adult with his head under the hood of a car, tearing something apart and putting it back together better than it was before.

Dusty Kubly, of Kubly’s Automotive in Brodhead, has realized his dream of owning and operating his own auto repair shop. “I always liked to work on things, take things apart and then put them back
together,” he stated.

When he was in high school, Dusty started working part-time for Gary Sutherland at his service station. After graduation, he began working full-time and in 1988 became a certified automotive technician. In 1992 Dusty started a towing business, based out of Gary’s service shop, and then in 1994 opened his own shop. Needing more room for his expanding business, in 1999 he moved his business from the North end of town to its present location at W896 TenEyck Road. A large addition to the building was added in 2012 – a long journey from his parents’ basement.

Dusty employs two mechanics beside himself, one service writer and performs all types of general automotive service and repairs, from oil changes to engine work and everything in between. He would like to expand his workforce allowing him to build up the used car aspect of his business.

Most recently Dusty is taking part in a nation-wide program known as “Wheels to Prosper.” As part of this nationwide car giveaway, Kubly’s is looking for deserving people in the community who are in need of a vehicle for numerous reasons. This is something that Dusty and his wife, Roxy had talked about for some time. He recently attended some classes in Glendale, Calif., and met one of the co-founders of the organization. Kubly’s is the first auto repair shop in Wisconsin to participate in this nation-wide program.

How the car giveaway program works is that members of the community nominate a deserving person – one who is in need of a reliable vehicle, someone who is always looking out for others and not thinking of themselves. Describe what distinguishes this person as a contributor to the community, their family or their friends.

Nominations can be collected either by mail to Kubly’s Automotive, W896 TenEyck Road, Brodhead, Wis. 53520, or by email at kublysauto@frontier.com, with the subject line: Wheels to Prosper. Deadline for nominations is Nov. 21. Thirty-five nominations have already been submitted. A panel of seven people will review the nominations and three winners will be announced at the
Brodhead Chamber of Commerce’s Fire and Ice Festival, held on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. The top winner will receive the car, a reliable 2003 Chevy Malibu, a full tank of gas, and with insurance. The
two other winners will receive prizes in grocery gift certificates and gas cards.

Co-sponsoring the promotion with Kubly’s Automotive include: Randy and Kim Johnson of Body Crafters Auto Body;; Jeff Duffield and Barry Patchen at Napa Auto Parts;; Dale Murray of Murray’s
Auto Salvage;; Patti Reavis at State Farm Insurance, Chris Speich of Speich Oil, Inc.; and Dan Palin of the Brodhead Piggly Wiggly Store.
